ICBC to Help Impoverished Cataract Patients
OREANDA-NEWS. July 17, 2014. The launching ceremony of the “ICBC Back to Light ” campaign jointly initiated by ICBC and China Foundation for Disabled Persons was held at Tongjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Bazhong, Sichuan Province.
This represents another initiative for public welfare implemented by ICBC and China Foundation for Disabled Persons to help impoverished cataract patients in Tongjiang and Nanjiang counties, Bazhong as well as patients in Wanyuan City in Dazhou of Sichuan Province.
The above counties and city are known to have high incidence of cataract. The initiative provides cataract patients cost-free surgeries for vision recovery, helping them get rid of visual impairment and return to normal life. In 2007 and 2008, ICBC donated RMB 1.7 million to launch the “Back to Light” campaign together with China Foundation for Disabled Persons, which has helped 1,700 impoverished patients in the above counties and city recover from cataract. From 2008 till now, cataract patients have increased by 2,400 in the area. With this project, all the impoverished cataract patients in this area will receive cost-free treatment.
By sticking to the value of serving the society, ICBC has not only supported the livelihood sector by granting loans and other financial instruments, but also actively carried out various social welfare activities in culture, education, medical care and environmental protects. In 2013, ICBC invested RMB 63.46 million in public welfare programs, and its accumulated public welfare investments over the years has exceeded RMB 620 million.
