OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2014. Estonia has handed over Russian banker Alexander Dmitriev to Russia, where he is wanted on chargers of embezzling 10 million euros.

Dmitriev had appealed the order to hand him over to Russia, winning at lower level courts, before having his plea rejected by the Supreme Court.

Representatives of Dmitriev said Russia's motivation for charging him is political, not criminal.

According to the charge, Dmitriev used figureheads between 2007 and 2009 to take out 8.65 million euros worth of loans from a bank in Omsk, a city in central Russia. He was the head of the branch where the loans were taken out from. Allegedly he was also behind a string of companies, which received 2 million euros in loans.
