OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2014. The Transports and Roads Infrastructure Ministry (MTID) will cooperate with the Romanian Department for Infrastructure Projects in the bridges and roads construction sector. A memorandum of understanding was signed by Minister Vasile Botnari during his visit to Bucharest.

Botnari said that such collaboration was extremely necessary, given that the two states agreed to soon launch more joint investment projects on construction and modernisation of bridges across the Prut River.

"We have a rich agenda in the road and bridge’s construction sector, for which we want to establish an intense cooperation. We are also interested in making an exchange of knowledge and experience in the road area, which Romania gained din the process of accession the European Union," Botnari said.

For his part, the above-mentioned department’s head, Alexandru Nastase, reconfirmed the willingness of the Romanian government to provide Moldova with the necessary assistance: "You have our every support in starting the agreed upon projects, both as regards the construction and modernisations of bridges, as well as in offering technical norms and European standards to build roads."

The sides also agreed to initiate, as early as in 2014, the restoration of the Galati-Giurgiulesti Bridge and to construct a new bridge in Giurgiulesti in the long run. At the same time, the officials discussed the building of a road bridge in Ungheni, with European financing, starting from 2015.
