Tata Power Boosts Rural Prosperity
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has been undertaking various initiatives with the objective of facilitating skill development which is essential to improve the employability and potential productivity of individuals. Understanding these challenges, the Company implemented an Assistant Nursing and Tailoring course in the remote village of Male, Mulshi taluka, Maharashtra.
With this initiative, Tata Power hopes to empower women with the knowledge and skill set needed for steady income generation and betterment of society by serving the locals who have limited access to medical aid. In addition to the Assistant Nursing and Tailoring course, the women were also taught elementary computer courses to help them get jobs requiring basic IT competency.
Speaking on this initiative, Mr. Rajit Desai, Chief of Projects, Tata Power stated, “We at Tata Power aim to empower women and make them self-reliant by implementing various income generation activities. We intend to organise such programmes for skill development which directly improves the employment prospect and economic well-being of the rural women. We have received an overwhelming response, and will continue to undertake similar initiatives in future.”
“We are confident that the programme will help the women get better opportunities and lead a better life,” added Mr K. Thimmiah, Head, Projects (Western & South)
The beneficiaries of the course were presented with Certificates of Completion by Mr. G. B. Deshmukh, Senior Manager, Tata Power; Ms. Puspa Nande, Chief Functionary of Swaropp Wardhinee, and Ms. Sunita Chintaman Satpure, Sarpanch of Male (Mulshi).
Such programmes better the lives of people in more ways than one. Ms. Lata Gore, from Mulshi, is a fine case in point who, after completing a similar course run by Tata Power in 2011, is now independently earning and supporting her entire family expenses, including the tuition fee of her younger sibling. Tata Power recognises that undertaking these initiatives is the best service to society, and through such programmes, aims to boost prosperity and translate growth into a measure of well-being for the rural communities.
