Dual Formation Sapsan to Run from Moscow to Petersburg from 1 August
OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2014. In order to meet the high demand for high-speed transportation, Russian Railways is laying on Sapsan dual formation trains between Moscow – St. Petersburg – Moscow.
The Sapsans are highly popular among passengers.
In December 2011, Russian Railways signed a contract with Siemens AG for an additional delivery of eight high-speed Sapsans and a maintenance agreement for the trains lasting 30 years. Four new trains have already been delivered to Russia and are currently completing their certification tests.
A distinguishing feature of the new trains is their ability to double up in dual formulations to increase the carrying capacity without increasing the actual number of trains on the line.
The new dual formulation trains with 20 carriages will begin operating on the Moscow – St. Petersburg – Moscow route from 1 August 2014.
Train No. 766 Moscow – Saint Petersburg will depart from Moscow every day at 19:35 and arrive in St. Petersburg at 23:34 (non-stop).
Train No. 759 St. Petersburg – Moscow will depart daily from St. Petersburg at 13:45 and arrive in Moscow at 18:15 after stopping at Bologoe and Tver.
Tickets for these trains are now on sale.
Passengers can choose from three ticket classes:
first class (carriages No. 1 and No. 11),
business class (carriages No. 2 and No. 12),
economy class (carriage Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20).
In addition, these dual formations have two bistro wagons (No. 5 and No. 15), space for persons with disabilities and the people accompanying them, and a children's area, with children's seats, a seat for mother and child and seats for children travelling under the "Unaccompanied Minors" service.
Each dual formation Sapsan can carry 1,050 passengers, twice as many as normal since the number of seats is doubled.
