OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2014. The President of Estonia announced the Tallinn University of Technology law, which shall be applicable from 1 September 2014.

The TUT law shall regulate the legal status, objectives and tasks, areas of responsibility, main teaching and research strands of action, state budget as well as the management system and other issues related to the University’s activities.

“The new law defines the role and tasks of TUT in society more clearly. The most significant change is the change in the structure of TUT management, the developing of which will now also include more people outside the University’s academic community,” said Andres Keevallik, Rector of Tallinn University of Technology.

According to the new law, the highest management body of TUT will be the Board of Governors, of which five members shall be named by TUT, one by the Estonian Academy of Sciences, and five by the Minister of Education and Research, mainly from areas related to entrepreneurship and production. The Board of Governors approves the statutes, development plan, financial plan, and the annual budget of TUT.

TUT is managed by the Rector, who is appointed by the Board of Governors for up to five years and two successive terms. The candidate for the position of Rector may be a person, who is or has been appointed for the position of a professor in any other university.

The University Council is an academic decision-making authority that makes decisions on issues related to TUT teaching, research, and development activities.
