OMK-Steel's Casting and Rolling Complex Wins Kulibin Award
OREANDA-NEWS. The Casting and Rolling Complex (CRC, an affiliate of OMK-Steel, based in Nizhny Novgorod Region, part of United Metallurgical Company, OMK CJSC, Moscow) has won the annual “Patent of the Year" competition, receiving the Ivan Kulibin Award.
The patent, which was used to develop the technology and master the production of low-carbon rolled steel (which is extra durable when faced with hydrogen-stress cracking and low temperatures), received a silver medal and a 1st Class Diploma in the “Best Invention of the Year in Chemistry and Metallurgy in the Nizhny Novgorod Region" category. The authors of the invention - Andrey Lamukhin, Leonid Efron, Dmitry Kudashov, Oleg Khlybov, and other exerts working at the OMK production site - are on the Engineering and Technology Center team at Vyksa Steel Works (VSW OJSC, based in Nizhny Novgorod, part of OMK CJSC).
“Getting the Ivan Kulibin Award is well deserved by our engineers and technicians. The pipes made from CRC's low-carbon steel are in high demand by domestic oil and gas companies due to the difficult conditions that extracting and transporting raw materials involve, “ said CRC's Director, Oleg Fedotov. “The rolled metal we produce makes it possible to manufacture pipes that meet the strictest requirements from our clients."
The “Patent of the Year" intellectual property competition for the Ivan Kulibin Award has been held eight times. It was organized by the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region. This year, the awards ceremony took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Science and Information Center as part of the “Topical Issues of Protecting Intellectual Property" conference.
