OREANDA-NEWS.   Lufthansa is expanding its route network of attractive city destinations from Frankfurt. This morning a Lufthansa aircraft took off from Frankfurt for its maiden flight to Lublin in Poland. The trade and university city in eastern Poland is already the airline’s eighth destination in Poland. The Airbus A319 reached Lublin airport, which only opened in 2012, in just under two hours. From today, this flight will always take place twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. With around 350,000 inhabitants, Lublin is one of the largest cities in the east of Poland. The University City offers a wealth of tourist attractions and a historic town centre, including the Johannes Cathedral which was one of the first baroque buildings in Poland. The old town of nearby Zamoњж has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

From this autumn, the culturally significant city of Marrakesh will be included by Lufthansa in Morocco on its flight plan. Starting on 2 October 2014, the airline will fly twice a week from Frankfurt to Marrakesh for the first time. The cultural city lies inland, at the edge of the Atlas Mountains, and can now be reached conveniently and directly in just under four hours from Frankfurt on Thursdays and Sundays. Passengers will be able to travel to Marrakesh on the Airbus A320 in both Business Class and Economy Class and in Frankfurt they can benefit from connecting flights from all over the world. Departure times have been set accordingly. Flight LH1332 only leaves Frankfurt in the late morning, returning from Morocco as LH1333 in the afternoon. Marrakesh is the second destination in Morocco, in addition to Casablanca, that Lufthansa flies to from Frankfurt. Germanwings flies to Marrakesh from Cologne/Bonn.

The Moroccan royal city of Marrakesh is a very popular destination for holidays and study trips with many cultural attractions. Thanks to its mild, dry winters and the pleasant climate at the foot of the high Atlas Mountains, the city is enjoyable to visit all year round. There are more than 500 hotels in Marrakesh, including many converted riads – traditional houses and palaces built around a courtyard. In 1985, the old town (Medina) of Marrakesh was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Many important monuments can be visited there. The Koutoubia mosque was built in the 12th century and is one of the oldest mosques in Morocco. Jemaa el-Fnaa, the central market square, is a hotbed of oriental flair with its snake charmers and surrounding souks, where typical Moroccan articles can be bought, such as spices, colourful fabrics and carpets. The city is known for its carpet weaving and dyeing.
