Import Volume of Livestock Products Declines in Kazakhstan
OREANDA-NEWS. July 02, 2014. Import volume of livestock products is declining in Kazakhstan. It was announced by Acting Director of Department for production and processing of agricultural products Erkebulan Akhmetov at the board meeting of the Agriculture Ministry chaired by Asylzhan Mamytbekov.
"Import volume of livestock products is declining, including poultry meat by 12%, milk by 3%. In general, there is positive dynamics of growth of livestock and poultry in agricultural companies. Thus, growth of cattle is 12%, and the population reached 1.8 million heads, sheep – by 7%, horses – by 12%, poultry - by 0.1%," E. Akhmetov said.
According to him, the number of cattle increased by 20%, including cows - by 26% in the country over the past 2 years. Earlier, in 2008-2009, the increase was 6% and 5%, respectively.
There was a significant increase in the production of meat, milk and eggs in 2013.
"As a result of 2013, meat production totaled 871 000 tons, compared with 2012, an increase of 3 percent and milk - 1.6 percent," E. Akhmetov said.
According to him, an increase in the production of major livestock products has been noted as of June 1, 2014. The share of processed products in total meat production is 30 percent, and milk - 41 percent. The highest share of processed products in total production of meat and milk is noted in Almaty, West Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan
