OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2014. The 21st World Petroleum Congress was held in Moscow. This largest forum of the world oil and gas industry was attended by five thousand delegates, including thirty ministers and 400 top-level managers, as well as heads of the oil and gas organisations from more than eighty countries.

As part of the forum, the World Petroleum Council traditionally presents awards to the developers of the most outstanding projects in the oil and gas industry. This year, the judging panel reviewed over 100 projects nominated in the Social Responsibility category, but only three projects were shortlisted as the best ones. One of these projects is the Sakhalin Indigenous Minorities Development Plan (SIMDP) presented by Sakhalin Energy.

Sakhalin Energy was also invited by WPC sponsors to share its experience in engaging with Sakhalin indigenous minorities at Social Responsibility Global Village, a special stand of the Congress. Experts selected ten projects globally that demonstrate successful cooperation between business and communities.

The World Petroleum Congress has been held every three years since 1933. It is organised by the World Petroleum Council headquartered in London, whose members are 69 countries, including the Russian Federation. SIMDP is a social programme that Sakhalin Energy has been implementing since 2006 in cooperation with the Sakhalin Government and the Regional Council of Authorised Representatives of Indigenous Minorities of the North of Sakhalin.
