PM: Agreement with EU to Upgrade Ukraine's Economy
OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2014. “The Government will promote the national capital and the domestic manufacturer with all possible means and tools through a political and economic dialog targeting to increase volumes of exported Ukrainian origin goods, diversify markets, create workplaces and improve quality and competitiveness of Ukrainian commodities,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized during a session of the Government.
This week the President of Ukraine is due to sign the second section of the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on a deep and overall free trade area, Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted: “The political clauses of the Agreement were signed two months ago and it confirmed invariability of Ukrainian course towards European integration”.
“No doubt, the Agreement is planned to upgrade Ukraine’s economy,” the Head of the Government said.
According to him, the task of today is to ensure competitiveness of Ukrainian commodity, quality of Ukrainian origin goods, their access to European and other markets and creating of workplaces in Ukraine.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk has stressed it is vital in a short term to take measures directed to real changes in Ukrainian economy structure and also the level of Ukraine’s companies “changes of standards and shaping of a Ukrainian commodity item fully compliant with the European requirements”: “It will give us a chance in midterm to boost exports and conquer new markets”.
“The task is highly ambitious but there is no another way for Ukraine, other than that envisaged by the Free trade area agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. It is the true course for Ukrainian economy to become a part of the huge integrated EU space,” he highlighted.
The Agreement on free trade area with the EU, according to the Head of Government, requires actions “made by the real economy sector and the Government and Parliament who are obliged to provide legislative platform to ensure the transition to the European standards”.
The Head of Government informed that throughout a month he would personally meet with representatives of the enterprises engaged into export of goods to the EU and the CIS markets, and other countries as well “to have a chance to determine with regards to each separate enterprise where we can obtain additional market opportunities”.
Moreover, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, he and his ministers of an economic block of the Government will have trips to the countries with promising markets “which are ready to lobby interests of Ukrainian industrialists, Ukrainian companies, goods and Ukraine as the country in whole”: “The entire civilized western world acts this way”.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized that among the targets of the Government to be achieved in midterm is the development of agro-industrial market: “For the three years we are capable not just to significantly boost production volumes but to join a line of principal countries that impact on the global food market”.
The Prime Minister informed he would present in the Parliament and for Ukraine’s citizens a package of development of food sector “which will receive credit support of our foreign partners”.
The second goal of the Government of Ukraine, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, is energy development containing in reducing of energy consumption and growth of energy efficiency. He addressed profile ministers: “You are living the way you lived before Russia cut off gas. You can’t live like that anymore. Tariffs have grown, so consumption should be cut. We should offer incentives to install metering devices, offer opportunities to insulate homes, provide the resource”.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk called these priorities realistic ones: “Old traditions when the Government writes programs consisting of dozens hundreds pages ended commonplace – nothing was executed. So I demand from the Government concrete and clear goals and achievement of these goals”.
