Moldova Hosts European Sustainable Energy Week
OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2014. During the opening ceremony of the event the head of the EU delegation in Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that the aim of EUSEW is to demonstrate the efficiency of energy use and renewable energy sources, exchange of experience and motivation of the new ideas on the environmental protection. Pirkka Tapiola noted that this project aims to improve the quality of the people’s lives.
In his turn, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar noted that the concept of this event perfectly fits the government's priorities, because the main goal of this week is to decrease the energy costs. First EUSEW in Moldova will become a platform for all interested in this field, to promote their work, and will also allow setting a trend for the important change. Most of the activities will be held in Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau. Two "Energy days" will be held on June 24-25 in Balti.
On June 26 a seminar/round table "Energy efficiency in hospitals" will be hosted in Orhei. EUSEW will end on 29 June in Stefan cel Mare Park with the festival SUN DA-I-Fest. During this day the exhibition of technologies based on renewable energy sources; a photo exhibition, devoted to the successful use of renewable energy used in Moldova will be held as well. Valeriu Lazar reminded about legislative acts regulating the energy sector.
According to the Energy strategy of Moldova till 2030 and the National action plan in the field of energy from the renewable sources for 2013-2020, the government has set the following objectives: consumption of 20% of energy produced from renewable sources by 2020; at least 10% of bio-fuels in the total fuel consumption; reduction of primary energy consumption by 20%; reduction of greenhouse gas emissions at least by 25% below 1990 indicators.
The European sustainable energy week (EUSEW) was organized for the first time in 2006 by the initiative of the European Commission.
