Verizon FiOS Customers Get More Than They Pay
OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2014. The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday (June 18) issued its "Measuring Broadband America Fixed Report" on broadband speed and reliability testing for residential broadband service.
This is the fourth broadband report issued by the FCC in conjunction with SamKnows, an independent company that tests broadband performance. The study, based on tests conducted last September, measured the speed and performance of 14 of the largest Internet service providers nationwide.
The following is a statement by Mike Ritter, chief marketing officer for Verizon’s consumer and mass market business unit, on the FCC’s test results:
“Verizon FiOS customers are getting more than they pay for when it comes to Internet services. The FCC’s report recognizes what our team works so hard to deliver to our customers every day – consistent and superfast broadband services that let them do whatever it is they want on the Web.”
“For the fourth time in as many reports, the FCC/SamKnows study found that every FiOS Internet speed tier delivered and sustained more than 100 percent of its advertised download and upload performance goals.
“This is welcome news for our customers who continue to demand faster speeds. People are adding more Internet-connected devices and using more applications, all of which makes yesterday’s Internet power user today’s average netizen.
“As of today, more than 50 percent of all FiOS Internet customers subscribe to FiOS Quantum speeds, which start at 50/25 megabits per second (Mbps) and goes as fast as 500/100 Mbps download/upload. Even during peak Internet usage between 7 and 11 p.m., FiOS demonstrated low latency, which is great for activities like online gaming and further differentiates our fiber-based services from most cable company competitors.
“We’ve already proven that our FiOS all-fiber-optic network can deliver 10 gigabit symmetrical speeds, so it’s a network that can easily continue to meet and exceed our customers’ appetite for data.”
