Tata Power collaborates with Raigad District Health Officer
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, is committed to improving the quality of life of the communities living in and around its area of operations. In line with this commitment, Tata Power has signed Standard Operating Practices (SOP) with the District Health Officer (DHO) of Raigad to strengthen the Government health sub center and has launched a campaign for women and child health under 'Project Arogya'. The objective of this initiative is to provide the villagers with quality healthcare facilities at their door step and enhance their standard of living.
Sub-Center for medical treatment at Shahpur village
The Company converted the abandoned Government sub center to serve 4,800 citizens of Dherand and Shahpur community who lacked easy access to good quality healthcare facilities and often have to travel over 25 kms to reach qualified doctors. The sub centre has provided quality medical services to more than 1,200 patients as of May 2014. Tata Power aims to provide qualified medical practitioners, medicines as per the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) guidelines, required medical equipment and access to ongoing health campaigns of the Government to the community.
The campaign for women and child health aims to prevent incidences that lead to a rise in infant and maternal mortality ratio (IMR and MMR) as more than 52% of women between age group of 25 years to 50 years are more prone to health problems like body pain and ailments related to malnourishment according to Tata Power's in-depth analysis of the health status of rural women. A medical team has been deputed to periodically visit pregnant women and new born children in order to measure physical growth, follow up on the immunisation scheduled and report any critical cases. In addition to this, the team also provides support to the Government on awareness on various critical diseases like HIV, AIDS etc.
Speaking on this initiative, Mr. Rajit Desai, Chief of Projects, Tata Power stated, “Tata Power aims to uplift the standards of health, hygiene and nutrition amongst the people of our community. Through programmes like these we reinforce our assurance of continuous support to the local villagers in sculpting a better and healthy way of living life.
