Tata Power's JV Maithon Power Installing Solar-Powered Street Lights
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company's joint venture with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Maithon Power (MPL) endeavors to improve the quality of life of communities living around its area of operations. In line with this commitment, the Company today announced the successful installation of special Solar powered street lights in the areas adjoining the Maithon plant.
More than 120 Solar powered street lights have been installed till date near the railway line and in the peripheral villages of the plant. The objective of this initiative is to reduce road accidents and snake bites in the village and to solve the problem of mobility at night. The location for installation was selected after careful assessment and joint survey by representatives of the villages, Panchayats Mukhyas and District Administration Officials.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, MPL said, “We are committed to improve the quality of life for the communities living in and around our area of operations. We encourage our stakeholders to use renewable energy sources such as solar power and these measures are a step forward towards achieving a greener environment. We will constantly support and always respond to the need of our surrounding communities by continuously organising such initiatives in the future as well.”
Mr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Station Head, MPL, added, “It is Tata Power's philosophy to ensure alternative and innovative power provision to all. We believe in making solar energy accessible and affordable to everyone, especially those who do not have access to electricity. With these, installations we plan to light up the common areas in the peripheral villages with natural, sustainable and alternate source of energy.”
