OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2014. The construction of a road bridge across the Prut River in the western Ungheni town might start in 2015. European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas conveyed an investment project on building the bridge to Transports and Roads Infrastructure Minister Vasile Botnari.

The bridge will connect the road segments Chisinau-Ungheni and Iasi-Targu Mures, and will be financed from the European Commission’s fund.

According to the European official, Moldova is a successful country in terms of EU partners’ willingness to invest in diverse projects.

“Moldova has worked a lot to turn to account the available opportunities. If the project’s idea fits our plans, then the works may start,” Siim Kallas said.

Botnari said that, till late 2014, the Transports and Roads Infrastructure Ministry would carry out a feasibility study, due to establish the sum needed for the construction.

The two officials also discussed the modernisation of the Ungheni-Chisinau railway and national roads’ restoration.

EU Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas is on a two-day visit to Moldova. He is to meet Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Parliament Speaker Igor Corman and other Moldovan officials.
