OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2014. New three dimensional art-installation has been mounted on the central square of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk shopping mall – a part of the “More Serious than It Seems!” information campaign.

An unusual art-work, it has caught the attention of the townsfolk reminding everyone of the dangers posed by small motor scooters driven by teenagers.

2013 Sakhalin Traffic Police statistics show that underage scooter drivers and cyclists have been involved in over 20 RTIs. Nearly all of these RTIs have lead to injuries.

The objective of this information campaign is to draw attention to the safety of teenage scooter riders.

The campaign will run until October 2014. Within the campaign audio and video promotional materials will be recorded, flyers and posters distributed, and social awareness campaign will be continued.

Parents are responsible for their children’s safety, and therefore adults will be the target audience of this information campaign. Parents buy scooters for teenagers to ride on, and pay for the fuel. It never occurs to them that this seemingly innocent pastime may lead to a fatal incident.

Sakhalin Road Safety Council is a major driver behind the campaign. It is supported by Sakhalin Energy, regional government and Sakhalin Ministry of Internal Affairs.
