National Grid Grain LNG Develops New Road Tanker Loading Facility
OREANDA-NEWS. National Grid Grain LNG, operator of the largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Importation Terminal in Europe, awards contract for the construction of new road tanker loading facility.
Once completed, the facility will cater for the commercial, industrial and road fuel markets - complementing existing services at Grain LNG Terminal near London on the Isle of Grain, Kent. The construction contract is for an initial, two-bay road tanker loading facility, with the option to expand further should market demand require it.
Planning consents are in place for the new facility and engineering work is already underway, the project is scheduled for delivery by Q2 2015. Following a successful open-season process that generated substantial market interest the contract was awarded to Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I).
Jon Butterworth, Director of UK LNG at National Grid said:
"With the increasing recognition of the substantial economic and environmental benefits of LNG as an alternative fuel, demand for the service in the UK is forecast to grow significantly, and logistically we are ideally placed to develop a road tanker loading hub, as we sit right next to the major transport routes in the South East of England and to/from Continental Europe".
