OREANDA-NEWS. President of SE NNEGC "Energoatom" Yuriy Nedashkovskiy is elected to the Main Governing Board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). The decision was taken during the WANO Governing Board meeting in Budapest (Hungary).

The WANO Main Governing Board has 14 members, including leaders of the world's largest nuclear power plant operators. The next meeting of the WANO Main Governing Board is scheduled for September 4 in Toronto (Canada), with the participation of the president of SE NNEGC "Energoatom".

WANO believes that the overriding priority for all countries operating NPPs is to improve safety and reliability of nuclear power plants by information exchange and emulation of best practices. The Association leadership team encourages nuclear power plants' operators worldwide to ensure maximum openness towards the experts WANO peer reviews.

"Energoatom" consistently implements activities on improvement of NPPs' safety. In 2011, the Government of Ukraine approved the Comprehensive (Integrated) Safety Upgrade Program that incorporates the activities developed based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima NPP accident. This Program is funded, inter alia, through the EBRD and Euratom loans.
