Number of Russian Tourists Drops for Second Month
OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2014. According to recent data, the number of Russian tourists visiting Estonia has been in decline for two months running, while the overall number of foreign tourists in April increased 11 percent compared to April last year.
According to Statistics Estonia, 139,000 foreign tourists used accommodations in Estonia in April - 13,000 more than in April last year.
While the number of tourists from Asia has increased by 47 percent when compared to April last year, the number of Russian tourists is in decline for the second month - a 6 percent decrease compared to April last year.
In 2013, Russian tourists made up 17.4 percent of all visiting guests and Tallinn has traditionally been a popular winter holiday destination for Russian guests.
Yet a recent poll showed that Estonia is considered a hostile country to Russians, and already in April, the daily, Eesti Paevaleht, reported that the Estonian tourism sector was starting to see a drop in business from Russia due to the weakening ruble.
