RZD' Network Loads 103,2 mn Tons of Freight in May
OREANDA-NEWS. June 05, 2014. According to the latest figures, in May 2014 the Russian Railways' network loaded 103.2 million tons of freight, which was down 2.2% on the same period in 2013.
Freight turnover in May 2014 increased compared to May 2013 by 3% and amounted to 191.4 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs in May 2014 rose by 4% to 247.6 billion ton-km.
According to the latest figures, loading in January-May 2014 amounted to 498.9 million tons, 0.6% less than during the same period in 2013. The railways shipped the following categories of freight. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January to May 2013.
coal – 126.3 m tons (-1.5%);
coke – 4.7 m tons (-2.4%);
oil and petroleum products – 107.6 m tons (+2.8%);
iron and manganese ores – 44.5 m tons (-1.3%);
ferrous metals – 29.4 m tons (-1.3%);
ferrous metal scrap – 5.6 m tons (-5.6%);
chemical and mineral fertilisers – 21.3 m tons (+8.7%);
cement – 12.1 m tons (-5.3%);
timber – 16.8 m tons (+10.8%);
grain and milled products – 6.2 m tons (+65.4%);
construction materials – 57.1 m tons (-13.1%);
non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 8 m tons (-3.9%);
chemicals and soda – 11 m tons (-2.6%);
feedstocks and moulded materials – 13.9 m tons (+11.4%).
Freight turnover since the beginning of 2014 amounted to 942.2 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 5.5% compared to the first five months of 2013, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs amounted to 1217.4 trillion ton-km, up 6.4%.
