OREANDA-NEWS. June 05, 2014. Prime Minister Taavi Roivas said the final choice for the exact route of the high-speed Rail Baltic train link will be taken in the fall with major questions in the air over the track in Harju County.

“The preferred route must be picked in the fall, after environmental and viability studies,” Roivas told ERR radio on Thursday, adding that construction could begin in 2017 or 2018.

The government narrowed the choice to three directions, ruling out the possibility of building the track on the planned Nabala nature reserve.

The next step is for the Ministry of Economic Affairs to complete and publish comparative studies of the route choices.

The cost of the different routes in Harju County varies by 100 million euros.
