Estonia Aims for Real Time Economy
OREANDA-NEWS. May 27, 2014. Spring issue of Life in Estonia focuses on government-led innovation. Readers get to know how Estonia is aiming for real time economy, why are we moving into the cloud, what are the hot Estonian-Mafia start-ups and much more.
The cover story represents Taavi Kotka, the CIO of Estonian Government. Taavi talks about taking the already successful e-state onto a totally new level. Namely, Estonia has an ambitious plan of moving the state into a data cloud spread all around the world, which will, in a sense, make occupying the country pointless.
In the summer issue we show the education topic from some new angles. “I hated maths” is something we often hear from former school leavers. The problem is not unique to Estonia. The British educational visionary Conrad Wolfram has developed a programme called Computer Based Math, and Estonia is the first country in the world to implement this programme in schools.
The cultural part of the magazine is devoted to the most well-known and loved Estonian of them all – living legend of contemporary classical music, Arvo Part. The compositions of maestro Part have proved to address everyone regardless of age, gender and nationality. For Estonians, the minimalist beauty of Part’s work symbolizes the essence of Estonia - white nights and endless forests, serene summers and hard winters. It is a land of contrasts – the medieval Old Town of Tallinn standing next to modern high-rise financial district.
Moreover, the spring issue gives its readers a comic portfolio by Marko Maetamm, recommendations of different events to participate this season and describes why we are true e-believers in Estonia.
