NPO Saturn Holds First Professional Skills Contest
OREANDA-NEWS. The NPO Saturn training center hosted the first contest of professional skills among the operators of CNC-machines hailing from the companies in the Civil Engines Division of United Engine Corporation (UEC). The main purpose of the competition was to identify the best operators in the frame of collaboration between NPO Saturn and Perm Motor Plant, the companies in the Civil Engines Division, and to boost the level of professional training with regard to a rather popular “CNC-machine operator” trade.
The CNC-machine operators representing NPO Saturn and Perm Motor Plant competed to win the “Best in trade” award demonstrating their knowledge and skills with regard to the theory and practice of turning and milling operations.
Greeting the contestants, deputy CEO for the development of intradivisional cooperation Victor Polyakov noted: 'A country could be technologically independent only if it is able to produce a high-tech product. It is exactly that product that both NPO Saturn and Perm Motor Plant are known for producing. It is manufactured by people who have gathered here today, the real professionals of their trade. We are very proud of our best turners and millers; unquestionably you are a valuable asset to our country.'
The list of contenders:
1. Alexey Rusakov, CNC-turning machine operator, category 4, shop 5
2. Vladimir Vasilev, CNC-turning machine operator, category 4, shop 12
3. Ilya Serebryakov, CNC-turning machine operator, category 4, shop 29
4. Dmitriy Nikitin, CNC-turning machine operator, category 3, shop 32
5. Alexander Volodin, CNC-turning machine operator, category 4, shop 57

The theoretical part of the professional skills competition included a test on the basics of metal cutting, parts and assembly units manufacturing quality assurance, fits and tolerances, CNC-machine maintenance and operational safety. The test contained some tasks revealing the knowledge of the G and M codes, the control program and using of universal measuring instruments for measuring a reference part. The practical part of the contest was all about the machining of parts in accordance with the received drawing and recommended production technique.
The jury evaluated the contenders' performance paying particular attention to how they measure the reference part, the quality of manufacturing, the time spent on the performance of the task in compliance with the established time limit, the observance of the operational safety requirements and the operators' work organization.
Following the competition results the best among the CNC-milling machine operators were: Georgiy Fedorov, shop 5, NPO Saturn (1 place); Alexander Kurnin, shop 57, NPO Saturn (2 place).
The best among the CNC-turning machine operators were: Sergey Panov, Perm Motor Plant (1 place); Alexander Volodin, shop 57, NPO Saturn (2 place); and Alexey Rusakov, shop 5, NPO Saturn (3 place).
