OREANDA-NEWS. May 23, 2014. Kazakh delegation headed by Vice Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan Erlan Sagadiyev met with the Ambassador of the United Mexican States in the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Kazakhstan part-time Martha Barcena Coqui.
 
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Mexico have been established since 1992. The parties expressed interest in the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism.
 
Madam Ambassador reported that it is planned to open the Embassy of Mexico in Astana in 2015. In turn, opening of the Kazakh Embassy in Mexico is planned until the end of 2014. The parties also agreed on further cooperation and collaboration on conducting the International Exhibition EXPO-2017.
 
Mexico ranks second among American countries in terms of tourism and is the only Latin American country among the 25 most visited by tourists. In 2013, the number of foreign tourists in Mexico amounted to 23.7 million people.
 
Mexican authorities decided to invest USD 14 billion dollars in development of tourism as one of the key sectors of the economy in May 2014.
 
Authorities identified three main areas for investment of these funds: infrastructure, increasing the offers of tourist destinations and modernization of airports and roads.
 
Development of beach areas, restoration of historical centers of colonial cities, development of such centers of pre-Columbian Mayan cultural heritage as Chichen Itza, Palenque and Teotihuacan are among priorities.
