OREANDA-NEWS. National Grid has now completed its GBP 50m project to refurbish overhead lines on Teesside and over the River Tees Crossing.

The project which focused on overhead lines between Saltholme and Grangetown started in 2012 and has involved the replacement of ageing overhead lines and the whole or partial replacement of steelwork in some of the pylons along the route.

In total, National Grid has installed 13.5km of cable as part of the two year programme of work.

The GBP 50 million project has been essential in improving the reliability of power supply in the area in line with National Grid's continuing transmission infrastructure improvements across the UK.

Mark Brennan, Project Manager for National Grid said: “I am pleased to announce that our work in Teesside has now finished. The project has been a great success and the replacement line will ensure that we can continue to provide a reliable service in the long-term.”

He added: “I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation during our work. Our local schools project, the Green Grand Prix, was a fantastic event which provided school children with the opportunity to build electric cars and I know it was enjoyed by all. I am also proud of our involvement in the installation of the Grangetown trolley bus system sculptures and I hope that these will continue to serve as a celebration of this region's rich heritage.”
