FPC Carry Over 4,4 mn Passengers during May Holidays
OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2014. Long-distance trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, carried 4,415,000 passengers during the May holiday season from 25 April to 11 May 2014, including 955,000 passengers from Moscow's stations.
During the three days of peak travel, on 30 April and 4 and 8 May, daily passenger numbers reached a maximum total of 441,300, 324,000 and 350,000 respectively.
There was also intensive passenger traffic on 3 May 2014, when 241,000 passengers travelled by train, up from the 225,500 people who made journeys on 3 May 2013.
During this period, trains to international and domestic destinations carried out 8,452 runs, of which 420 were extra runs laid on specially.
Additional trains were arranged for the most popular routes connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg with the cities of the Volga and Central Black Earth regions, North Caucasus and the Urals.
Extra trains were also laid on for international routes to neighbouring countries, enabling passengers to travel to Belarusia: from Moscow to Minsk and Brest and from Saint-Petersburg to Brest.
Two additional international trains number 70/69 Moscow – Helsinki also ran, departing from Moscow on 30 April and 8 May and on 4 and May 11 from Helsinki.
Over 13,000 passengers travelled on international trains from 25 April to 10 May 2014.
In addition, during the May holidays there was a marked increase in the popularity of transportation services for automobiles on specialised rail-car transporters on international train number 32/31 Leo Tolstoy on the Moscow – Helsinki route. Passengers departed on a journey with their cars almost every day, and during May holidays, rail-car transporters made a total of 17 runs on this route.
