OREANDA-NEWS. May 14, 2014. Under the State Science & Technology Support Program of 12th-Five-Year Plan, MCC Group Central Research Institute of Building & Construction (CRIBC) took the lead in the project of Research & Demonstration on Complete Application Technology of High-performance Structural Steel for Civil Architecture with Steel Structure.

Wuhan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd., Greenland Holding Group and Southeast University also played a supporting part in the research work. This technology had been successfully utilized in the Southern Tower under the Greenland Central Plaza Project in Zhengzhou City of Henan Province.

The Greenland Central Plaza consists of two towers with a height of 300 meters, which are the current tallest twin towers in China. The project covers a land area of 63.2 mu (note: 1 mu is equal to 666.67 square meters) and a planned floorage area of 820,000 square meters.

The Southern Tower is designed with 66 storeys above the ground, with a height of 300 meters and the above-ground floorage area of 250,000 square meters. With regard to all the column steel components for the framework of 53rd-64th floors, the cantilever truss components (including the cantilever diagonal web member and the cantilever chord member) of 53rd-54th floors, as well as the framed girder and the other components of 54th-58th floors, the high strength steel of Q460GJC, one of the research achievements under the abovementioned project, was adopted. This has successfully reduced the sectional dimensions of the steel components, but also cut down the steel utilization at least by 10%.

On this ground, this project is regarded as the first demonstrative works for complete application of high-strength structural steel in China.

By utilizing the aforesaid research results, some key technical problems, which are in relation to the welding technology for high-strength structural steel and the application on the steel-reinforced concrete column, can be resolved, and thus the complete set of technologies and products in this field can be developed.
