Moldovan, Guatemalan Officials Broach Economic Ties, Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2014. Guatemala wants to foster the economic ties with Moldova and is interested in Moldovan wines import, tourism development, free trade opportunities, which Moldova has on the regional markets. The Moscow-based Guatemalan Ambassador to Moldova Herbert Estuardo Meneses Coronado made statements to this effect at a meeting with the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova (CCI), the CCI’s press service has reported.
The envoy also underlined that he was the first Guatemalan diplomat also accredited for Moldova and was set to contribute to initiating the cooperation ties between businesspeople of the two states along his mandate.
For his part, CCI Deputy Head Vladimir Didilica informed about the main sectors of the national economy, Moldova’s trade regimes with the EU, CIS, CEFTA member states, principal national and international economic events, organised by CCI annually.
The sides agreed to boost up the economic data exchange and cooperate, in order to sign an agreement between the Moldovan and Guatemalan Chambers of Commerce, so that, subsequently, to jointly organise business and economic missions to Moldova and Guatemala.
The level of Moldova-Guatemala economic ties is very low and a better familiarisation with the collaboration possibilities in certain sectors, in order to enhance the trade exchanges, is needed.
The data of the National Bureau of Statistics show that no Moldovan product was exported to Guatemala in 2013. But, imports from Guatemala to Moldova was of 827,600 dollars in 2013, increasing by about 14-fold against 2012.
