OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2014. CEO Oh-joon Kwon visited Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

CEO Kwon visited DSME`s Okpo shipyard on Geoje Island to meet with CEO Jaeho Ko and look around for the production site.

CEO Kwon emphasized, ``POSCO is focusing its capabilities on strengthening core steel competitiveness to rise further as a top the global steel company. We will also contribute to creating practical customer value through technology-based solution marketing this year.``

He also noted that Korea`s technological excellence in the marine industry was recognized internationally through the order DMSE received for Russia`s icebreaker LNG carrier, adding, ``I hope POSCO can contribute to the icebreaker LNG carrier project that starts in full-scale production in the second half of this year.``

As domestic shipbuilding companies expand contracts for high added-value ships such as icebreaking LNG carriers, deep-sea offshore plants, and environmentally-friendly, high-efficiency ships, POSCO plans to accelerate the development of steel materials needed for such projects.

While technology development was designed to meet customer`s current demand in the past, steel material development in these days must be done in advance in order to develop the demand. And it is expected to lay the firm groundwork to grow together with customers.

POSCO aims to form a virtuous cycle whereby their company grows together with the domestic companies in shipbuilding and maritime industries, planning to share each company`s vision based on trust and establish a close cooperative relationship on technology development. On April 4th, CEO Kwon visited Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries to discuss win-win cooperation plans.
