OREANDA-NEWS. Transstroymekhanisatsiya (TSM), a Mostotrest subsidiary, has won an open tender for a contract to upgrade the airport complex in Ufa.

Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FGUP) Administration of Civil Airports (Airfields) is the project customer. The contract value is RUB 2.8 billion (including VAT). The project is scheduled for completion in 2014-2015.

TSM will completely modernize infrastructure of the operating airport on a tight schedule. The project consists of an upgrade of Runway 2 by replacing pavement slabs, reconstruction of the existing apron to accommodate target aircraft types, and construction of a new apron (including lighting and aircraft maintenance installations and de-icing platforms). The project will reinforce taxiways, expand safety shoulders and bring them into compliance with ICAO standards. A new connecting taxiway will be built between Runway 1 and Runway 2, to ensure rapid runway clearance. As part of the project, TSM will also modernize taxiway lighting installations, rebuild the drainage system, build surface runoff treatment facilities and upgrade the airport's power supply system and internal road network, including the patrol road.

The project also includes a set of environmental protection measures at both the construction and operation stages. Specifically, the existing runoff treatment facilities will be rebuilt and new ones erected to improve the environmental situation around the airport. A new designated de-icing platform will be built with a designated reservoir to collect contaminated wastewater, and an enhanced asphalt pavement of driveways and concrete slab pavement of sidewalks will be laid.

The project will be implemented as part of the federal target program Development of Russia's Transport System (2010-2015), ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to be held in Ufa in mid-2015. Among others, the project will create parking aprons for wide-body aircraft, thereby increasing the airport's throughput capacity.

The Ufa Administrative Airport Complex is located in the Kirov District of the city of Ufa and Ufa Region of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The airport has international status.
