OREANDA-NEWS. On April 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted a meeting on mono-cities sustainable development in Petrozavodsk.

In the attendance of the meeting were Presidential Aide Andrei Belousov, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Minister of Labor and Social Security Maxim Topilin, Presidential Envoy to the Northwestern Federal District Vladimir Bulavin, Head of the Republic of Karelia AlexandrHudilainen, Governor of the Sverdlovsk region EvgenyKuivashev, Vnesheconombank Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev, Deputy Vnesaheconombank Chairman Irina Makieva as well as heads of OJSC Russian Grids, OJSC Russkii Aluminum and OJSC Gazprom

In the course of the meeting, its participants discussed issues of the socio-economic situation in mono-cities. They also looked into the issue of government support for mono-cities economy diversification including main lines of activity and proposed volumes of government support. Irina Makieva spoke about the performance of the working group on modernizing mono-cities under the government commission. In her report, she spoke about the group's successes and problems and also made a proposal for organizing further work in mono-cities.

Specifically, she highlighted measures for providing government support that made it possible to reduce registered mean unemployment rate by 1.5 times by way of creating about 92 thousand permanent jobs.

After the meeting, Vladimir Putin gave instructions on supporting mono-cities in 2014-2017.
