Gazprom Sees Risks Associated with Gas Transit through Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. May 06, 2014. This was stated in the Management Report of the Russian gas holding in 2013. It is noted that currently supply of a substantial part of "Gazprom" of the natural gas to the customers in Europe depends on the pipeline system, passing through the territory of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
The document stresses that "Gazprom" will not prevent a potential failure in the gas transit through the territory of these countries. There were cases when the gas supplies, intended for European consumers were redirected because of the disagreements with the countries of the former Soviet Union.
It is noted that any failure in transit through the territory of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, including the potential selection of gas supplied to Europe, could lead to the fact that "Gazprom" can not meet its obligations to the supply of gas to European consumers. It is emphasized that the ongoing political and economic crisis in Ukraine strengthens fears that Ukraine will not be able to fulfill their obligations on the gas transit and resort to selecting gas intended for European consumers, which may adversely affect the results of operations and financial position of "Gazprom".
