OREANDA-NEWS. May 06, 2014. The government plans to build a plant for disposal of persistent organic pollutants in conjunction with UNDP.

It was informed by Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources Anatoly Dernovoy in an interview today.

According to him, construction of the plant will not only solve the problem of Kazakhstan with disposing persistent organic pollutants, but also neighboring countries.

"In general, I suppose that this project also solves problems designated by the country’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev within approved program for development of "green economy". It provides not only addressing disposal of persistent organic pollutants, but management of firm, household and industrial waste. The complex solution to this problem, of course, will significantly improve the environmental situation," A. Dernovoy said.

According to him, construction documents to determine the cost of the plant are under development so far.

"There will be a joint co-financing by UNDP donors and budget of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Capacity of the plant will conduct activities to dispose such waste on applications of other countries, too," A. Dernovoy resumed.
