IMF: Belarus Should Rely on FDI, Bilateral Loans to Pay off State Debt
OREANDA-NEWS. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) refers to foreign direct investments (FDI) and bilateral loans as sources of financing Belarus' state debt,
IMF mission leader David Hofman made a statement to this effect at a press-conference.
Mr Hofman visited Belarus to hold the 2014 Article IV Consultation discussions with the authorities.
The IMF representative admitted that Belarus' external liabilities had grown considerably and it would be a challenge for the government to take care of them in the context of shrinking reserves.
The IMF recommends Belarus' government should keep looking for additional sources of funding, Hofman said.
