Ministers from Various Countries Tackle Agrarian Potential of Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2014. In the framework of the II International Agroforum Balticum in Tartu (Estonia), the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Ihor Shvayka took part in a session of the target group.
The participants of the meeting were chairmen of agrarian departments of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Finland, Belarus, Armenia, Sweden, Moldova, the Netherlands and members of European Commission and FAO. The target discussion was dedicated to export opportunities of the countries, trade relations and restrictions, transformation of agrarian policies of the states, the role and places of the development strategies.
“The top priority for the new Government is construction of predictable relations based on mutually acceptable rules both within the country and with our international partners. Ukraine targets development of dynamic relations between the countries, maximal activation of cooperation basing on the pragmatic approach to work,” Ihor Shvayka stressed.
The Minister invited representatives of the Baltic states to deepen cooperation in fishery. Moreover, he stressed Ukraine was concerned in creating joint enterprises dealing with production and processing of products of vegetable and animal origin.
Ihor Shvayka singled out the development prospects for the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service. “The activity of the Service is one of the most significant for the Ministry. It is of strategic importance to preserve and intensify the authority of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service, to lead it to high level by applying European experience and western standards. Just such approach is expected by Europe from us to demonstrate and we are moving in this direction,” the Minister emphasized.
In addition, in the framework of the mentioned international events the Minister met with Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization David Shark. They discussed mechanisms of solving conflict issues in the WTO frames and ways of intensifying cooperation between Ukraine and the Organization. The interlocutors noted for Ukraine the top priority appeared the search of ways to protect interests of the national producers who suffer from losses with the view to certain actions by the Russian Federation.
