NPO Saturn Individual Scholarship Program Rated as Efficient
OREANDA-NEWS. The NPO Saturn management rendered substantial support to the development of the 'NPO Saturn individual scholarship program' throughout 2014 manifested in as many as 15 grant's-in-aid awarded to undergraduate students in the amount of up to 5000 rubles per month and 8 grant's-in-aid awarded to post-graduate students in the amount of up to 10 000 rubles per month.
The undergraduate and postgraduate student support program (spanning students from P.A. Solovev RSATU of Rybinsk, MAI of Moscow and PNIPU of Perm) got underway a year ago with the purpose of producing the research and technology backlog of knowledge, involvement of the young engineers in the research studies and creating mechanisms of enticing and recruiting the most talented youth to work for the company. This program was devised and adopted by NPO Saturn's research and technology council. In 2014 it is envisaged to hire the graduate students involved in the research studies, so they can start working fulltime for NPO Saturn's design bureau.
At the moment 19 students earning the best grades participate in the program, which is already twice as many compared to the previous year. The undergraduate and postgraduate students are offered subjects for their research works reflecting the most topical issues encountered by NPO Saturn's present-day business: composite materials, low-emission combustion chambers, anti-oxidation and thermal-barrier coatings, new methods of research into processes for modular strength performance development, product manufacturability and maintainability improvement and improvement of existing computational methods.
Ilya Fedorov, NPO Saturn chief executive officer noted: 'We are staking on the youth who, under the guidance of their coaches, study and put to practice at NPO Saturn production processes not yet mastered in the company. In the real work environment, professionalism of young engineers, researchers and design engineers is formed; conditions are established for elaborating state-of-the-art design concepts using new materials. NPO Saturn will continue supporting students' research activity related to solving the most important technical tasks posed to the Russian engine building. Depending on the results, at the end of the year a decision will be made on expanding the program's scope and the number of participants.
We are in constant interaction with the leading aerospace higher learning institutions, and student selection is very strenuous. I'm delighted by the fact that every year we receive more and more CV's from different institutes. I wish everyone good luck.'
Yuriy Shmotin, NPO Saturn technical director emphasized that 'in 2013 the NPO Saturn undergraduate and postgraduate student scholarship support program yielded some promising results. Eight students successfully continue their training programs, including postgraduate students, carrying out research in the best interests of the company. This is very important to NPO Saturn. Since nowadays not a single new development is even thought feasible without the application of new technologies, new design solutions and new ideas. Research studies allow us to pinpoint the most needed, most important and most prospective for the company. Supporting practical application of innovative ideas, we give a new impulse to the development of modern design concepts while identifying the most talented engineers along the way. This program allows us to increase the overall technical awareness level of the students in the process of performing calculations and prepare engineers for their future operations at a given work station upon graduation from a university. I would very much like to see students from MAI and postgraduate students from SGAU of Samara work at NPO Saturn as they possess the competences which could be of interest to us.”
