Kazakh Ministry, Total, SunPower Sign Memorandum on Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2014. The biggest oil-and-gas company "Total" intends to test its innovative model of high-capacity solar panels.
Representatives of the Oil and Gas Ministry, "Total" and "SunPower" companies signed a memorandum on cooperation development in the field of solar power engineering.
"This project will be implemented at Nazarbayev University, ant it is funded entirely by the company "Total". Uniqueness of this technology is the highest efficiency among all the world’s solar panels. It is more efficient than the other panels for 25 percent," Vice Minister of Oil and Gas Magzum Mirzagaliyev explained.
In turn, Director of Government and Public Relations of "Total E&P Kazakhstan Company" Daniyar Salimbayev stressed that there are not such solar panels in the market so far. Kazakhstan is one of the first countries where the new technology on the development of solar energy will be tested. India is next in turn.
"It has the highest level of productivity and has no analogues in the market. They are no ordinary solar panels; it uses a system of mirrors that gives up to seven reflections of the sun per a solar cell, respectively, increases system performance. It also monitors the progress of the sun and builds up itself so there is maximum solar energy," D.Salibayev added.
Mini power plant, which is to be established at Nazarbayev University, will generate 25 kilowatts of electricity per hour and provide one of the buildings of the university with power. Installation completion is planned for 2016. In turn, M.Mirzagaliev added that if the project will be profitable, it might begin to be implemented in other regions of Kazakhstan.
According to the analysis of "Total", Kazakhstan has considerable potential for the development of solar energy (more than 300 days of sunny days per year in some regions).
