OREANDA-NEWS. April 16, 2014. The Taganrog and Azov VTS seaports management center received a message from the Burevestnik pilot boat on the calls for help heard in the area of the roadstead No. 6 located along the first elbow of the Azov-Don Sea Canal.
 
O.V. Efimenko, the shift foreman, recommended the Burevestnik to shut the engine off to determine where the calls for help were coming from. Also the vessels located in the VTS area, including the ones laying off at the roadstead No. 6, were instructed to check if the crew members were on board. The incident was reported by telephone to the Azov Seaport Master Service, the Azov Basin Branch operator and the Taganrog and Azov seaports VTS Chief.
 
In 10 minutes in the complete darkness the injured person was found and hoisted in a critical condition. The hurt turned out to be V.V. Kukhtin, the first mate of the Vassily Tatishchev motor boat (Belize flag) proceeding along the canal towards the Don River.
 
One hour later, thanks to the coherent and competent actions of the Taganrog and Azov seaports VTS duty shift, the Burevestnik pilot boat crew, as well as the crew of the Koluzaevo pilot boat of the Azov Basin Branch Taganrog Department who met the Burevestnik and ran her to the Taganrog Seaport, the hurt was taken to the shore where he received medical treatment.
