Baltic Workboats Delivers Shallow Draft Port Tug for Riga Freeport
OREANDA-NEWS. Baltic Workboats has delivered the new multifunctional port tug 'LIVA' to the Latvian Freeport of Riga. LIVA is the second vessel of the builder's ice going shallow draft tug series designed by ILS designers of Finland. 2011 delivered Panda was first of these new-generation tugs with very low draft what makes it ideal for operations in the small ports, which have reduced maneuvering spaces and are especially limited in depth.
With a number of changes compared to Panda, LIVA meet the owner requirements on vessels more versatile use and functionality. Extended in length Liva has now 63m2 working deck. This extension allows also an improved layout to the living quarters. The new model measures 23.80m x 7.2m beam with a draft aft of max (full load) 2.1m. Full load displacement is 170 tons. Liva is powered by a pair of Volvo-Penta D16 MH main diesels, each developing 441 kW at 1800 rev/min. These turn Rolls Royce stern mounted US 105 P6 FP azimuth thrusters in configuration with propeller diameters of 1300mm. The vessel's electrical needs are supplied by the Agco SISU Power 420 DG generator set of 35kW.
Below main deck the forward accommodation area features one single cabin, twin berth cabin, four-berth cabin and separate WC and shower compartments. On main deck there are galley and office room arrangement. Other changes and improvements over earlier versions include two DataHidrolik 5 tones hydraulic winches aft driven via main engine PTO. Aft deck features FASSI 100 AP deck crane with 8 tons lifting capacity. Vessel is built according RMRS rules and has notation RMRS KM + Ice 2 R3.
The navigation bridge boasts a wonderful 360-degree view, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The bridge is fitted with all the specific equipment required for navigation in A1 region what is among other equipment installed around centrally stationed navigator seat.
For buoy handling operations there is in the wheelhouse separate operators seat with controls over deck equipment and excellent view to aft deck. The tug is designed to be operated by a crew of two, and carry 8 passengers in cozy passenger lounge.
