Auckland Airport Welcomes Additional Auckland to Perth Direct Flights
OREANDA-NEWS. Auckland Airport has welcomed the announcement by Qantas that it will continue and also increase its seasonal service between Auckland and Perth.
The seasonal service will operate from 5 December 2014 to 26 April 2015 and follows on from the success of the twice weekly Auckland to Perth service that was introduced by Qantas last summer.
Glenn Wedlock, Auckland Airport’s general manager aeronautical commercial, says not only does the recent announcement demonstrate the huge popularity of direct services on the Auckland to Perth route, but the additional flights could also contribute over USD 10 million to the New Zealand economy.
“This latest announcement from Qantas to continue providing the direct seasonal service between Perth and Auckland is a response to the high demand that was experienced on the route last summer.”
“Qantas had 34 flights and nearly 8,000 seats on the Auckland to Perth route last summer,” says Mr Wedlock. “Next summer’s service will see Qantas operating 84 flights and almost 20,000 seats on this route during the December 2014 to April 2015 period. We estimate this increased summer service could boost the New Zealand economy by over USD 10 million.”
“Not only will this seasonal service deliver more capacity and choice for travellers, but it will also stimulate demand by making it more convenient for passengers to travel between Western Australia and New Zealand,” continues Mr Wedlock. “As well as this, the proven popularity of the route will continue to deliver for New Zealand’s tourism industry and economy.”
“It is also great to see Qantas expanding in Auckland, highlighting the strength of our market for developing profitable growth.”
