General Dynamics Awarded USD 23 mn to Develop Modeling Software
OREANDA-NEWS. General Dynamics Information Technology has been awarded the Joint Effects Model (JEM) Increment 2 contract by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). JEM is the U.S. Department of Defense’s primary system for modeling the effects of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) material releases. The cost plus fixed-fee award has a potential value of USD 23.5 million over five years if all options are exercised.
Under this contract, General Dynamics will develop software that will serve as the foundation for the JEM Increment 2 System as well as the software architecture for the JEM science and technology (S&T) prototype. The JEM S&T prototype provides rapid CBRN defense planning capabilities to remotely deployed warfighters through easy-to-use web application interfaces. The company will also provide program and systems engineering management support and will serve as the integrator of JEM Increment 2 software. Work will be performed in Middletown, R.I.; Buffalo, N.Y.; and San Diego.
“General Dynamics has a strong foundation of CBRN scientific subject matter experts who understand both the parameters and requirements for successful model development,” said Ed Hudson, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Information Technology’s Network and Mission Systems sector. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with SPAWAR and expanding our presence in the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons community.”
SPAWAR, one of three major U.S. Department of Navy acquisition commands, provides the hardware and software to connect warfighters at sea, on land and in the air. The organization supports the full lifecycle of product and service delivery from the initial research and development, to acquisition and deployment, to operations and logistics support, and enhances information dominance and awareness among Navy, Marine, joint forces, federal agencies and international allies.
General Dynamics currently supports SPAWAR’s Business and Force Support, Integrated and Cyber Operations Services and Transport and Computing Infrastructure Services Pillar contracts, and C4ISR Joint Warfighter Support for the U.S. European Command and U.S Central Command contract.
