OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus will go for home currency denomination when the country's economy starts functioning well.

Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko made a statement to this effect while making a tour of OAO Aircraft Repair Plant #558 in Baranovichi.

“We will do it when the time is right for it. I have already told you in all honesty that the new banknotes were printed a long time ago. We need a proper moment for it (denomination), a proper time for the economy to start working, so that there was certain stability in the country” Lukashenko said.

The president accentuated the point that denomination is a purely technical process. Lukashenko also took the opportunity to discourage Belarusians from investing in foreign currency. “It is preferable that you should go shopping instead,” said Lukashenko.
