KAMAZ and Liebherr Develop New Engine
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian company OJSC KAMAZ and Liebherr-International AG signed an agreement on 25 March 2014 for the development of new inline diesel and gas engines. This reinforces and adds detail to the initial cooperation agreement signed at the end of 2013.
Sergey Kogogin, Director General of KAMAZ, and Dr. h.c. Dipl.-Ing. (ETH) Willi Liebherr, Chairman of the Administrative Board of Liebherr-International AG, signed the agreement in Ehingen, Germany. The agreement covers various aspects of development for the next generation of KAMAZ diesel and gas engines. These engines will be used in a new series of KAMAZ trucks and buses, as well as in stationary diesel and gas generators.
KAMAZ will set up state-of-the-art production facilities in Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia, for manufacturing the engines. Liebherr will provide technical consulting services for the design and planning of the new production facilities and for the start of production. Liebherr will also assist KAMAZ in the procurement, installation and commissioning of the production facilities and equipment.
The new KAMAZ 6-cylinder inline engines will have a displacement of 12 litres and cover a wide power output range of 450 to 700 horsepower. They will all feature Common Rail injection and Liebherr engine control units. The engines will be designed for very low fuel consumption and emissions. This means they will not only comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard, but will also be able to meet the Euro 6 standard in future. It will also be possible to increase the service interval to 150,000 km. The new engines are scheduled to go into series production by the end of 2016.
