Delegation of Russian Ministry of Defense Visits NPO Saturn
OREANDA-NEWS. A delegation of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation headed by the deputy minister of defense Yuriy Borisov visited NPO Saturn. The purpose of the visit was to obtain the current status on the fulfillment of the State defense order (SDO).
The observance of its commitments with regard to the State defense order has been and remains NPO Saturn's first priority. In the frame of the existing SDO for 2014 - 2015, the company is implementing a number of programs.
The first program is related to the fulfillment of big orders for the repair of the D-30KP-2 gas turbine engines serving the needs of the military and transport aviation. These engines power the Il-76-type aircraft and its modifications operated by different government agencies (the Federal Security Service, the Ministry of internal affairs, the Ministry for the emergencies and the Astronauts training center), however the principal state operator for these engines still remains the Russian Federation Air Force. In compliance with the tasks posed to the Russian Federation Air Force aimed at increasing the percentage of serviceable aircraft in its fleet and multiplication of the intensity of its operation, the number of engines returning from the service for repair increases exponentially. The government ensures the financing of these activities without any interruptions and in full scope, at the same time requiring unconditional observance of all the contracts put in place to date.
In the frame of the SDO, the company produces small-size military engines. The principal customers for these products are the TRV corporation and the Novator design bureau. NPO Saturn has reached impressive results in building an order portfolio in that field. The process of integration with the Omsk design bureau seeking to consolidate the Russian assets and competences in the filed of military engine manufacturing is ongoing.
The third significant program carried out by NPO Saturn in the interests of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation comprises marine gas turbine engines used as part of the power plants equipping the ships and speedboats of the Russian Federation Navy.
“In the course of the last eight years, it is my third visit to NPO Saturn and each time I come here, I bear witness to some dramatic changes, - noted the deputy minister of defense of the Russian Federation Yuriy Borisov tallying up the meeting results. - My first visit to Saturn was dedicated to the industrialization of the SaM146 engine program, a subsequent visit was dedicated to the start of serial production of that engine. The goal of today's visit as deputy minister of defense of the Russian Federation in charge of the armament programs is to see how the company proceeds with the main engine programs in which Saturn is given the main role of the integrator before the airframers and to understand to what extent the plans of manufacturing the products in the interests of the State defense order are respected. Nothing will fly without the engines: neither missiles, nor fighters, nor transport aviation, not even ships.
I don't hide the fact that we are cautions about the possible outcome of imminent sanctions; if the occidental countries finally decide to introduce any such sanctions against us as a consequence of the Crimea joining Russia, that will also let us see how stable our relations with our Ukrainian colleagues are. The State defense order is our number 1 priority and we have to preclude any possibility which could impact its fulfillment.”
Ilya Fedorov, NPO Saturn chief executive officer: “We are more than serious about anything related to the fulfillment of the State defense order and ensuring state security. This is essential to us.”
