OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2014. According to the latest figures, in March 2014 the Russian Railways' network carried 84,600,000 passengers, 0.3% more than in the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 77.3 million, an increase of 1.3 %, while long-distance passengers fell 9.3% to 7.2 million.

Passenger turnover in March 2014 amounted to 8.6 billion passenger-kilometres, 7.6% fewer than during the same month in 2013.

In January-March 2014, 234.7 million passengers used the Russian Railways' network, 1.3% more than during January-March 2013. Long-distance passengers totalled 21.9 million, a decline of 6.7%, while suburban passenger numbers rose 2.2 % to 212,900,000.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways' network since the beginning of 2014 decreased by 5.2% compared to last year and amounted to 25.7 billion passenger-kilometres.
