OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2014. For the 16th year in a row, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been named the busiest airport in the world, according to the 2013 passenger results released this week by Airport Council International (ACI). In 2013, 94.4 million passengers passed through Hartsfield-Jackson, with more than 911,000 landings and takeoffs. There was a 4.1 percent increase in international passenger traffic over the same time period.

“I am proud of the team at Hartsfield-Jackson and their continued demonstrated expertise in running the most successful passenger airport in the world,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “Thanks to the strong partnership with Delta Air Lines and all of our valued airline partners, Atlanta’s airport is well-positioned to continue growing passenger traffic and expanding new routes for travelers. As the leading passenger airport in the world, we are also developing our cargo program, which will enhance our position as a center for logistics globally.”

“While being recognized as the world’s busiest airport is a great testament to our operations and efficiency, the volume of passengers we process also enables Hartsfield-Jackson to be the top economic generator for the state of Georgia and metro Atlanta,” said Hartsfield-Jackson Interim General Manager Miguel Southwell. “We’re proud that Hartsfield-Jackson supports more than 58,000 employees and has an economic impact of USD68.3 billion a year on the state.”
