easyJet Opens Direct Service from Copenhagen to Hamburg
OREANDA-NEWS. easyJet, one of Europe's biggest carriers, today opens a direct daily service from Copenhagen to Hamburg in northern Germany. The first flight is scheduled for tonight. This is the 12th easyJet route out of Copenhagen.
Passengers from Denmark and southern Sweden can now fly easyJet to yet another major city in Europe. The airline today opens a direct service to Germany's second-largest city, Hamburg out of Copenhagen - linking these two cities that work closely together.
“A close collaboration between the two cities will help attract growth and create additional jobs. Moreover, culture and creative industries will play an important role for growth in the coming years, and I am sure both cities will benefit from the improved flight connections,” - said Frank Jensen, Mayor of Copenhagen.
Collaboration between Copenhagen and Hamburgс
In 2011, Frank Jensen, the Mayor of Copenhagen, and Olaf Scholz, the Mayor of Hamburg, signed a collaboration agreement focusing on creating the best conditions for their business communities. With culture as the bridge builder, the collaboration is to strengthen the ties between the two cities, which are similar in terms of area and population.
“Our ambition is to have the biggest route network between Europe's primary airports, and we are especially pleased to connect cities such as Copenhagen and Hamburg. Hamburg is both an attractive tourist destination with an exciting cultural offering and an important commercial city, so both tourists and business travellers will benefit from the new service,” said Javier Gandara, Country Director for easyJet in Denmark.
More tourists for Copenhagen
Hamburg is a city with almost two million inhabitants, a fast-growing economy and a rich offering of art and culture. That is something people in Denmark have really come to realise in the past couple of years and, according to the Hamburg Tourist Board, the number of Danish tourists in Hamburg was up 35% in terms of hotel nights in 2012.
“Not only will travellers from southern Scandinavia get better opportunities to travel to Hamburg, but we also have to remember that the new service will bring more business travellers and tourists from northern Germany to Copenhagen, and that is good for Danish business and the Danish tourism industry,” said Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports.
