OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2014. The bill "On ratification of the Protocol to amend the Agreement on the terms and application of tariff quotas of 12 December 2008" was approved at the plenary session of the Majilis.

"Eurasian Economic Commission approves sizes of tariff quotas and distributes among the countries of the Customs Union in connection with the Agreement on the terms and application of tariff quotas," the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dossayev said presenting the bill.

According to him, in connection with the Agreement, the amounts of tariff quotas should not exceed the difference between consumption and production of this product in the CU. Protocol amends the Agreement, which will regulate volumes distribution of tariff quotas for certain types of agricultural goods between CUmember countries within the scope of international cooperation.

The Minister noted that a tariff quota has been defined for Russia in connection with its entry into the World Trade Organization and the adoption of various commitments on tariff quotas. During the determination of tariff quotas, the volume of tariff quotas for Russia is considered primarily. Kazakhstan and Belarus are set equal volume of tariff quotas, but this amount is not enough to meet the needs of Kazakhstan and Belarus. In this regard, it was decided to amend the existing agreement according to which the Commission allocates the amount of the tariff quota among States parties within the difference between the volumes of production and consumption in each of the states that was taken into account when calculating the tariff quota amount for common customs territory in conenction with Article 3 of the Agreement.
