Moldova Expects from Ukraine Response on Contract for Electricity
OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2014. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Moldova Iurie Leanca, noting that during his visit in Kiev, this issue was discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Arsenii Yatsenyuk and industry Ministers, considering that the current contract for the supply of Ukrainian electricity to Moldova expires at the end of March.
In addition, the talk is about cooperation of both countries in the energy field and the provision of transit of Russian gas supplies to Moldova through the territory of Ukraine. It can be reminded that the Ukrainian electricity supplies to Moldova are carried out by company DTEK Vostokenergo"- a part of DTEK which is the largest private energy company of Ukraine, owned by the well-known businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
The price for electricity supplies to the consumers of Moldova is 6.9 cents per 1 kW/H. At the same price Moldova purchase electricity from the Moldovan HES, located in the Transnistrian region owned by the Russian Inter RAO UES. Earlier the Vice-Premier, the Minister of economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar has declared that Moldova is also interested to start imports of cheaper electricity from Romania, noting that it has already started preliminary negotiations. According to him, the Romanian electricity is approximately 15-20% cheaper than electricity purchased now at the Moldovan HES and Ukraine.
